With 60 teams from 10 advanced education and technical institutions specializing in agronomy and food production, student enthusiasm for the Thnot d’Or competition is at its peak. In previous years, the number of teams registered for the first phase of the contest did not exceed thirty, but participation has now doubled.
The theme for this new edition is “Innovative Transformation of Mango-Based Products and Technical Studies on the Production Chain for the Market”. The aim is to foster a spirit of research and innovation among students so they can contribute significantly to rural development and the country’s food independence.
This record-breaking number of registrations, totaling 250 students, marks the culmination of an information campaign led by the Kinal Foundation, which organizes the competition across ten higher education institutions in Phnom Penh and provincial areas. These include the Royal University of Agriculture, Cambodia Institute of Technology, National Institute of Agriculture, Royal University of Phnom Penh, Saint Paul Institute, Kampong Speu Institute of Technology, and International University in Phnom Penh.
The 60 teams have until April 28 to submit a summary presentation of their research projects to the jury. The 10 shortlisted teams will then develop their projects further for the competition’s final round in July.
The Thnot d’Or competition is organized by the Kinal Foundation as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy of the PPM-Confirel Group. Its purpose is to promote research in agronomy and food technologies among young researchers. Alongside this contest, the Kinal Prize aligns with the broader mission of the Kinal Foundation: contributing to Cambodia’s sustainable economic development by strengthening human resources and fostering innovation.
